House Hazards
1. Never lock an entryway from the outside. Doors and windows locked from the outside prevent people from leaving the building during an emergency.
2. Never leave a warm or hot iron unattended. An unattended iron that is on will scorch fabric and may cause a fire.
3. Don't use stairwells, hallways and other thoroughfares as storage space. Cluttered items left in the open will prevent a safe and quick escape.
4. Don't lock safety gates on windows. Fumbling for a key or combination during an emergency will reduce the opportunity for a safe exit.
5. Keep flammable items like fabric and paper away from stoves and other sources of flame. Always keep an eye on cooking food. Burning oil and grease can easily start a fire.
6. Keep space heaters on a level surface away from fabric and other flammable items.
7. Never disable or remove the battery from a smoke alarm. Frequently test smoke alarms and make sure that you replace batteries regularly.
8. Burning candles should never be left unattended. Keep flammable items like fabric and paper away from candles.
9. Store gasoline, newspapers and other combustibles away from sources of flame.
